1st Job-Lincoln

STUDENT SIGN UP FORM – 1ST JOB LINCOLN

CHAMPION EMPLOYER SIGN UP FORM – 1ST JOB LINCOLN

Make a difference in our community!

What We Do

1st Job-Lincoln is a program developed and coordinated by LHRMA’s Workforce Readiness Committee.   Created in 2013, 1st Job-Lincoln gives students exposure to the information technology business world while still in high school.  The name “1st Job-Lincoln” was coined to promote the concept of preparing youth for their first professional job; the program seeks out “Champion Employers” who “champion the way” for our community’s youth to access such jobs at an early age.  Unlike other typical summer jobs for teens, 1st Job-Lincoln gives students an opportunity to explore a career in the IT field for which they may not otherwise be able to access as a high school student.   Secondly, 1st Job-Lincoln provides employers an opportunity to seek out qualified candidates for future employment needs.  See our and Q & A for more detailed information about our program.

Who We Partner With

1st Job-Lincoln partners with The Career Academy’s information technology pathway students. We also welcome students from any of the Lincoln Public Schools high schools as well as Lincoln’s parochial high schools.

“The Career Academy (TCA) is excited to partner with LHRMA to contribute to the ongoing success of 1st Job-Lincoln.  The potential to connect TCA programming and networking students is a tremendous opportunity.  Working with previous Champion Employers as well as creating new Champion Employers through our pathway support teams and other local employers is a win-win for everyone involved.  (Dr. Dan Hohensee, Director of The Career Academy)

“1st Job-Lincoln is providing incredible opportunities for our students.  I am very grateful to the employers and organizers for providing experience and exposure to the incredible careers and    possibilities that Lincoln’s flourishing technology sector has to offer. 1st Job-Lincoln is a great program for all involved and is truly of great benefit to the entire community.” (Pius X High School)

Be a Champion Employer!

“The results of a recent community vision plan created by Angelou Economics for the Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development (LPED) highlighted the importance of programs like 1st Job-Lincoln in keeping needed talent here in Lincoln, which is vital for economic success and global competitiveness. High school internships like those provided through 1st Job-Lincoln provide valuable skills and experiences for students while also showing them what awesome job opportunities exist in Lincoln once they graduate.”  (Christina Oldfather, Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development)

1st Job-Lincoln gives students the opportunity to experience hands-on learning in a professional setting, while also giving our local employers benefits such as:

  • Ability to demonstrate career opportunities to our youth as well as giving students an economic reason to stay, learn, and work in Nebraska.
  • Impacting the education of our community’s youth through the natural “career counseling” that takes place during the internships.
  • Tapping into students who generate fresh, new ideas for their employers.
  • Being recognized for their involvement and participation in an innovative initiative that develops and maintains a vibrant workforce that drives the economic future of our community.
