Program Topic:
Working with the Walking Wounded
Every workplace includes individuals who are carrying unseen burdens—grief, trauma, chronic stress, caregiving responsibilities, financial strain, burnout, relationship challenges, or mental health concerns. These employees often continue showing up and performing while silently struggling. Human Resources professionals are uniquely positioned to recognize signs of distress, create psychologically safe workplaces, and connect employees with appropriate supports without becoming counselors.
This session explores how HR professionals can effectively support “the walking wounded” while maintaining professional boundaries, organizational expectations, and employee dignity.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Identify
Recognize common signs that an employee may be experiencing emotional distress, burnout, trauma, grief, or other invisible challenges affecting workplace functioning. - Respond
Demonstrate practical communication strategies that convey empathy, support, and psychological safety while maintaining appropriate HR boundaries. - Support
Develop workplace approaches that promote resilience, employee well-being, and organizational effectiveness without requiring HR professionals to act as therapists.
