Program Topic:
Untapped Talent: Reentry, Second-Chance Hiring, and the Role of HR

As employers continue to navigate workforce challenges, HR professionals have an opportunity to look more closely at talent pools that are often overlooked – including individuals who are justice-involved or returning to the community after incarceration.

This panel discussion will bring together leaders from corrections, reentry, workforce development, and higher education to explore what HR professionals should know about recruiting, hiring, and retaining justice-involved individuals. Panelists will discuss the realities of reentry, the strengths and barriers candidates may bring, community resources available to employers, and the role organizations can play in creating meaningful pathways to employment.

Attendees will gain a better understanding of:

  • The employment challenges and opportunities facing justice-involved individuals
  • How employers can thoughtfully approach second-chance hiring
  • Resources, partnerships, and education pathways that support successful reentry
  • Practical considerations for HR professionals seeking to expand their talent pipelines while supporting business and community needs

This conversation will help HR leaders think beyond traditional recruiting approaches and consider how access to meaningful employment can strengthen individuals, organizations, and the broader Lincoln community.
