Feb. 9, 2017 Legislative Update

 

Over the next several weeks, lawmakers will be designating their priority bills.

State

  • LB 305 Paid Family Leave – the Committee took no action immediately following the hearing last week on this bill.  This bill had plenty of opposition including opposition from the Nebraska Commissioner of Labor who opposed the bill.  We will keep you updated on any movement following this committee hearing
  • LB 372 – Add Caregivers as a Protected Class – According to the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce, they reported that employers could face between 50 to 100 additional charges of discrimination a year (citing the EEOC’s estimate).  The committee took no action immediately following the hearing last week on the bill
  • LB 261 – Adopting the Nebraska Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act – Hearing scheduled later today
  • LB Requiring use of E-Verify – Hearing scheduled February 22, 2017
  • LB 173  Prohibit discrimination on basis of Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation – Hearing scheduled February 22, 2017
  • LB 211 – Change minimum wage for tipped employees – Hearing scheduled February 27, 2017
  • LB 354 Adopt the Wage Disclosure Act – Hearing scheduled February 27, 2017

Federal
